Door toezicht op banken zorgen Europese en nationale toezichthouders er samen voor dat financiële risico’s tijdig worden gesignaleerd, en er kan worden ingegrepen zodat falen van banken niet meer leidt tot kosten voor nationale overheden en belastingbetalers.
